Melissa

The name Melissa comes from Greek and means "bee" or "she who gives honey". Undoubtedly its sweet nectar and inebriating scent attracts bees and insects of all kinds that suck its nectar. Greeks, Arabs and Latins recommended its use to calm states of anxiety even describing it as a 'plant that cheers and comforts the heart'. Ideal for soothing melancholy and overcoming the most critical moments of life. Melissa is also called Lemon balm, it is a perennial herbaceous plant, belonging to the Lamiaceae family. Its recognition is facilitated both by its petiolate, oval, hairy, reticulated and toothed leaves, and by its scent similar to that of lemon. It is recommended to collect the latter, from which the healing properties are obtained, before flowering. Its beneficial properties can be exploited to ease tension and reduce nervousness, irritability, restlessness and stress. Also ideal for dealing with stress accumulated during working hours or problems related to the psychological sphere. Its sedative action is also effective in naturally combating insomnia and headaches. Among its properties we find antispasmodic ones, for better digestion, to calm abdominal cramps, nausea and reduce the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Melissa is rich in caffeic acid and rosmarinic acid, powerful antioxidants that neutralize reactive oxygen species. Melissa contains a natural painkiller, eugenol, particularly useful for combating menstrual pain.
